(WORT) — In the wake of the Day Without Latinos protests, immigration activists in Wisconsin gathered around the state on March 14 and at the Capitol on March 15, organizing against a pair of bills in the state legislature. AB 450 would preempt local regulations related to police investigations of individuals’ immigration status, requiring law enforcement officials to coordinate with federal officials on the issue. SB 563 would prevent local governments from creating ID cards for residents to use in commercial transactions or social programs.
La Communidad News founder and publisher Dante Viscarra speaks with Kristian Knutsen about the status of these bills and the ongoing organizing against them.
