What are the benefits to private prisons? Why are inmates serving longer sentences in private prisons? Today host Yuri Rashkin was joined by Anita Mukherjee, an assistant professor in the University of Wisconsin School of Business, to discuss her research on private prisons. He was also joined by Tom Breu, who is running against Paul Ryan for Wisconsin’s 1st Congressional District.

Mukherjee’s research found that inmates in private prisons appear to serve an average of 60-90 days more time due to additional fractions of their sentences. Inmates at private prisons 15% more
likely to get an infractions, and when they do receive about twice as many than inmates in public prisons.
