MADISON (WORT) — Breese Stevens Field in Madison has been a fixture of local athletics since the 1920s but the old ballpark has been experiencing a revival after decades of neglect.
This fall, Breese Stevens Field will host more than just sports games. Fightin’ Bob Fest will be there for the first time in September, and the Avett Brothers will perform there this October. Promoters hope this will spark more concerts being booked at the historic field.
In the debut episode of the Madison History podcast, Stu Levitan tells the story behind the field’s namesake Breese Stevens. Stevens was one of Madison’s earliest industrialists, a member of the University of Wisconsin Board of Regents, and the city’s 20th mayor.
