Dear MMC Members and Friends –

Tonight’s the night that the great jazz trumpeter Brian Lynch teams up with the UW Jazz Orchestra and UW Honors Band for the final concert in the season’s Isthmus Jazz Series presented by the Wisconsin Union Theater (8:00 PM, Old Music Hall). Tickets are still available, at the Vilas Hall Box Office (entrance on the East Campus Mall),

by phone (608-265-2787), online at, and at the door. They’re a real bargain at only $15 general admission ($5 for UW students and $10 for UW faculty, staff, Wisconsin Union members and other students).

Brian Lynch is a graduate of two of the top “schools” in modern jazz – Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers and the Horace Silver Quintet – and is deeply steeped in Latin Jazz through his work with stars of the genre like the legendary Eddie Palmieri. Add to this that Professor Johannes Wallman has the UW Jazz Orchestra performing at a very high level, and his direction of the new Honors Band — a group of the area’s finest high school jazz musicians — promises to be another revelation.

Madison Music Collective has been proud and happy to have partnered with the Wisconsin Union Theater over the past few years on great Isthmus Jazz Festival and Series concerts and outreach programs with Mary Stallings, Tia Fuller, Papo Vazquez, Carmen Lundy, and — coming up in just a few weeks at the Festival – Richard Davis and Willie Pickens to reopen the newly-renovated theater.

Tonight’s concert should be an excellent one. If you don’t already have your tickets, or aren’t yet sure of your plans for tonight, please consider attending. Hope to see you there.
