On Monday, July 9th, Brenda Konkel talked with Dane County Board Chair Scott McDonell about the problems facing our many lakes. Measures were already taken last summer to help clean lake Wingra, and Scott McDonnell believes we, as a county, can revive the beauty of all of our lakes if we make them a priority. Last November he pushed the Clean Lakes Initiative.
Recently, the Waunakee Tribune discussed how the plan is now being carried out:
“Work to implement the County Board’s multi-million dollar, multi-faceted Clear Lakes Initiative is under way. The 2012 budget includes $5.7 million to begin work to remove carp and prevent new infestations in Cherokee Marsh and Mud Lake, clean up beaches, reduce phosphorus, form a new Lake Preservation and Renewal fund, and upgrade storm sewers to keep sediment out of the lakes. ”
