In tonight’s episode of the Perpetual Notion Machine, newcomer Kai Brito tackles his second venture into producing and reporting on science. So, he wanted to learn about the level of diversity in the scientific fields. A report by the NSF showed that it’s pretty dismal. Has UW-Madison, and lower public education, helped encourage and train more minority and women scientists? Are STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) programs working?
Kai talked with several UW-Madison students about their experiences in their chosen fields of study. Kai also talked with Dr. LaRuth McAfee about UW-Madison’s McNair Scholars Program, and also Dolly Ledin, program manager for ARMS mentors and students.
