The American Cancer Society’s 33rd Annual Madison Walk/Run presented by American Family Insurance, will take place Saturday, April 12, at Warner Park.
The Madison Walk/Run is a 5k or 10k course that allows participants to walk or run while following a designated course through the streets and paths of Warner Park and Lake Mendota. Runners can sign up for a timed 5k or 10k course and walkers can sign up for the 5K walk.
Event registration opens at 8:00 a.m., followed by opening ceremony at 9:30a.m., with the Run/Walk starting at 10:00a.m., at the Madison Mallard’s Stadium. Day of event cost is $30 per adult 13 and older, and $20 per youth under 12 years old.

Sons of Norway’s Idun Lodge will once again hold its annual Spring Frokost and Bake Sale. Everyone is welcome to attend!
Included on the expansive smorgasbord-style buffet will be smoked salmon, ham, sausages, herring, boiled eggs, a variety of cheeses and breads, other home-baked goodies (lefse, fried cakes, heart-shaped waffles, almond cake), sweet fruit soup, and beverages (coffee, juice, milk). Adults $12, ages 6-12 $6.
A separate Bake Sale will offer traditional Norwegian coffee cakes, breads & rolls, cookies and potato lefse ($6 for 3 large rounds). Come early for the best selection!

Individuals with disabilities, healthcare workers, caregivers, and students will be especially interested in presentations, adaptive equipment and services that can make life easier despite health challenges.
Free presentations on Yoga, Therapeutic Gardening and Assistive Technology will encompass a holistic approach to wellness.
Come meet with vendors from various community agencies to discuss resources that can help to promote the highest quality of life
Free CarFit assessments are available from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. CarFit helps drivers and their vehicles work safely together. The 12 point assessment takes only 20 minutes and can improve the fit of the seat, seat belt, steering wheel and mirrors to maximize driver safety. Appointments for CarFit are appreciated. Slam Up is an innovative mix of comedy and poetry through music and spoken word featuring Cali Bulmash and Emily Lowinger. They’ll rap, sing, spit (poetry), & grab you by the heartstrings with their tales of the many shades of love– requited, unrequited, gay, straight, queer, or, well, just “creative.”

Free Lecture from noted Zen instructor and psychotherapist Flint Sparks who is in Madison to teach mindfulness to mental health professionals at a UW Continuing Studies seminar. This public presentation focuses more on how the mix of Zen practice and psychology can eliminate unnecessary suffering and lead to a life filled with kindness and generosity. Dr. Sparks was a speaker at Ted TalksX in Austin and leads retreats around the US, including frequently in Madison.

MADISON, WIS., March 5, 2014– Madison Gay Hockey Association (MGHA), an adult developmental ice hockey league for people of all sexualities and gender identifications, is hosting an open skate fundraiser.
Blades Against AIDS will be held Saturday March 15th, 2014 from 5pm-7pm at the Hartmeyer Ice Arena located at 1834 Commercial Avenue in Madison. The goal of this event is to raise HIV awareness and its effects on the LGBTQ community. Proceeds from this event will benefit the AIDS Network.
“The 6th Annual Blades Against AIDS fundraiser is the place to be on March 15th and is a great fundraiser for the AIDS Network.” said David Hafner, Blades Against AIDS Chairperson for MGHA.
Blades Against AIDS is open to the public. Admission is $5 for ages 11- 17, $10 for ages 18 and up, children under 10 years of age are free. Admission includes food, drinks, skate rentals, and on ice performances. There will be raffle prizes, games, and more at this event.

The sale begins on Thursday, March 6, with a member-only sale from noon until 5 p.m. (memberships are available at the door for $5). The sale continues Friday and Saturday, March 7 and 8, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., then again on Sunday, March 9, from 1-5 p.m. Beginning at 3 p.m. that day is a bag sale, during which books will be sold for $5 per bag.
The Sale will take place on the first floor of the Central library, 201 West Mifflin St., in the three glass study rooms near the Fairchild Street entrance and in the Friends Book Store. There will be a good selection of fiction and non-fiction for children and adults, and shoppers can also peruse a selection of history and art books. Most items will be priced at $2 or less, but there will be some specially priced items.
The Friends of the Madison Public Library is an organization constituted to promote and improve library services, materials and facilities for the Madison community; to stimulate gifts and bequests to the library; to provide volunteer support for the library’s programs; to raise funds for immediate and long-range projects; and to encourage the broadest possible use of its facilities, materials and services.
The Friends of the Madison Public Library have made a pledge of $100,000 to the Library Foundation toward the building and furnishing of the new downtown library and will be focusing attention on that goal for the next two years.

On Thursday February 13th starting at 11AM: WORT and Next Door Brewing will celebrate World Radio Day with the release of our collaboration beer SECRET ALT TRANSMISSIONS Sticke Altbier!
As long as it remains on tap at the brewery, a portion of the proceeds from each pint of Secret Alt Transmissions sold will go to YOUR community radio station.
And, the WORT presence at Next Door on World Radio Day will feature a live remote broadcast by the seminal Thursday night rock program PSYCHOACOUSTICS from 8 to 10pm!
Psychoacoustics hosts the Reverend Velveteen Sly and Bad Sister Heidi will head the WORT presence that evening along with other WORT personalities, including WORT’s resident brewer Jim Goronson, who got to brew Secret Alt Transmissions with Next Door head brewer/co-owner Keith Symonds on January 16th.
Again, in an exciting community collaboration, we will celebrate World Radio Day at the Next Door Brewing Company (2439 Atwood Ave.) on Thursday February 13th.
