Rob Halpern, Poetry Reading & Discussion

Hosted by the Felix Series of New Writing, visiting writer Rob Halpern will read from various works, including new work related to Guantanamo Bay detainees. Halpern is the author of Music for Porn (Nightboat Books 2012), Disaster Suites (Palm Press, 2009), and Rumored Place (Krupskaya 2004). He teaches Creative Writing at Eastern Michigan University.

The Felix Series of New Writing is in its tenth year of providing an audience in Madison, WI for innovative writing from independent and small presses.

Free and open to the public. Supported by the Anonymous Fund and the UW-Madison Department of English.

Ensemble Musical Offering

Ensemble Musical Offering, Milwaukee’s Midwest Bande for Early Music, makes its Madison debut in an all-Handel program titled Hallmarks of Handel. The concert is March 30 at 2 PM at the First Unitarian Society. Lead by Artistic Director Joan Parsley, the program will feature the G Major Suite from Handel’s Wassermusik, Concerto Grosso Op.3 No. 4 and No. 6, the keyboard concerto Op. 4 No. 2 and his Sinfonia for Bassoon. The Ensemble plays on period instruments and includes Madison players Theresa Koenig, baroque bassoon and Edith Hines, baroque violin.

The Whale Tales is a Boulder CO band. Their sound is a mixing pot of influences. Steeped in rhythm and blues and infiltrated by soul, folk, pop, alt country and rock, their eclectic sound is timeless. Some hear traces of the Wood Brothers, others The Band or Taj Mahal. No matter how you hear it, the band brings an infectious energy to the stage that leaves you wanting more.
