Today in 1865: The state of Georgia provides the final vote needed for the 13th Amendment to become part of the U.S. Constitution, abolishing slavery.

Two days before, Mississippi’s legislature had voted to reject ratification. Mississippi didn’t ratify the anti-slavery amendment until 1995.

It’s This Weekend’s Action Calendar!

Tonight, in collaboration with Madison Storytellers, The Bubbler at Madison Public Library presents “December Night Light.” Listen to and share stories about books. This free event, featuring food and drinks from Forequarter, is tonight from 8 to 11pm on the 3rd Floor of the Madison Central Library, 201 West Mifflin Street. Tomorrow, the City of Madison Parks Department hosts the 14th annual HolidayFest Arts and Crafts Show with door prizes, live music, and over 80 crafters from the Midwest! There is a small admission charge. This is tomorrow from 9am to 3pm at the Warner Park Community Recreation Center, 1625 Northport Drive. Call 608-245-3670 for more information.

This weekend is Creating for Causes: a Holiday Art fair for M.O.M., or Middleton Outreach Ministry. Hours are Saturday from 1 to 7pm, and Sunday from 9 to 3pm. Artists will donate part of their proceeds to the M.O.M. Food Pantry & Programs. This is at the food pantry, 3504 Parmenter in Middleton. More info at facebook.com/creatingforcauses
