On the Tuesday, June 25th 8 O’Clock Buzz, sub hosts Donna Parker and Hedi Rudd talked with Shellie Pierce of Growing Power Madison. She and her father, Robert Pierce, are the “farmers in residence” at the Resilience Research Center in Madison, where Growing Power is located..
There are many great benefits to being involved in a land trust and eating healthy and local. For example, Pierce explained the Market Share Baskets, which provide quality fruits and vegetables to chiefly low-income families at below-value prices. She also described the sense of community and empowerment that can come from collaboratively growing your own food.
