During the second half of the Wednesday, June 12th Buzz show, host Jan Miyasaki talked with senior fellow of the Urban Institute Justice Policy Center Julie Samuels about the recent Supreme Court Ruling that DNA can be collected upon arrest for a serious crime. This decision was reached after the case of Maryland vs. King – where a suspect’s DNA that was collected for an assault trial matched with DNA from a rape years earlier. Samuels also described how this collection and the records of DNA vary state-to-state, particularly in Wisconsin. Read an article Samuels coauthored further explaining the ruling and potential implications here.
