Author Stephen Laubach presents a free public lecture titled “Redefining Conservation on the Leopold Memorial Reserve: A New Era of Cooperative Land Stewardship!” tonight at 6 p.m. at the Aldo Leopold Nature Center, 330 Femrite Drive in Monona. The Leopold Memorial Reserve in Baraboo, Wisconsin, the site of Leopold’s famous “shack,” was ideal for pioneering experiments in ecological restoration and cooperative conservation. Tonight’s presentation examines the evolution of the Reserve idea. The stories and poems of Wisconsin writers shape our understanding of natural areas and communities. Tonight at 7 p.m. at the Overture Center, 201 State Street , Wisconsin Poet Laureate Kim Blaeser leads a panel of poets from across the state in a discussion of how writers relate to their communities and how creative writing can engage communities in the political process.
