(WORT)–May 1st is celebrated around the world as International Workers’ Day. Here in Wisconsin, people participated in a range of May Day festivities, from a labor rally in Madison’s Brittingham Park to a march in support of immigrant workers in Milwaukee.
But before any of those events got underway, Darien Lamen attended the annual Picnic Point gathering of the Oak Apple Morris Dancers in what is still one of Madison’s best-kept secrets. Every year at dawn, the English folk-dancing troupe partakes in a spring ritual that is older than time itself.
