Today in 1963: The “Equal Pay Act of 1963” is passed and signed into law.

It guaranteed women equal pay for equal work. The legislation was a result of the recommendations of President John F. Kennedy’s Commission on the Status of Women.

Tomorrow night is Labor Solidarity – From the U.S. to Iraq! Learn about the vibrant unions in Iraq and how we can support each other. Michael Zweig of U.S. Labor, against the War, or USLAW, will present slides and video about his visit to the 4th International Conference of the Iraq Civil Society Solidarity Initiative in Basra in October, 2012. Local affiliates of USLAW will be present, and will explore how we in Madison can demonstrate cooperation with trade unions in Iraq. This is tomorrow night at 6pm at Madison College – Downtown Campus, Room D240, 211 North Carroll Street. More info at uslaboragainstwar.org.

The Respite Center is a safe place for kids, ages birth to fourteen, whose families are under stress or in crisis. They are looking for volunteers to play with kids four hours a week. Training is required. Call 244-5730 for details.
