Today in 1968: In London’s Trafalgar Square, at the largest anti-Vietnam War protest in Britain to date, 25,000 people march.
They were demonstrating against American action in Vietnam and British support for the United States policy. Some attempted to storm the U.S. Embassy, resulting in 200 arrests and fifty taken to hospital, nearly half police officers.
It’s today’s Action Calendar!
Tomorrow at 12:15pm is “History Sandwiched In: ‘Wisconsin Women in the War Between the States.” Though the contributions of women during the Civil War were many, documentation of their efforts was scattered. Join historian John Zimm as he reminds us of the stories Ethel Alice Hurn preserved through findings in collections of letters, newspaper files and interviews. There is a small donation admission requested. This is at the Wisconsin Historical Museum, 30 North Carroll Street. For more info, call 608-264-6555.
