Today in 1947: Film industry executives, meeting in New York, announce that the “Hollywood Ten” directors, producers, and writers who had refused to testify before the House Un-American Activities Committee would be fired or suspended, and not hired in the future, thus “blacklisted.”

Tomorrow night, Congressman Mark Pocan will talk about the harmful effects of big money in politics. There will be time for Q&A about this issue, and about the progress toward a ‘We the People’ constitutional amendment. This free, public event is sponsored by the local affiliate of Move to Amend. This is tomorrow at 6:30pm in Room 302 of Madison’s Central Library on Mifflin Street.

Low cost spayings and neuterings for dogs and cats are available through the Dane County Humane Society and Maddie’s Fund. There are various times and prices and they include an FVRCP vaccine.
