A new music and arts festival set on 20 acres of farmland along the Chippewa River in Northwestern Wisconsin kicks off this Friday. The organizers, who include Justin Vernon of Bon Iver and Aaron Dessner of The National, are hoping to shake up the festival scene with a homegrown, intentionally curated event that focuses on experience over flashiness. They’ve tapped Michael Perry, New York Times best-selling author and self-proclaimed Wisconsin farm boy, to be the festival narrator. To elucidate what that means, as well as give an inside look into the making and ethos of the festival, Perry spoke with Brian Standing on the July 13th Buzz.
