FermentationFest There’s something brewing in Reedsburg. From this Friday evening, October 12th, through Sunday, October 21st, the Wormfarm Institute brings Wisconsin the Fermentation Fest, a celebration of all things bubbly, burbly, cultured, or fermented.   There are classes in making your own pickles or cheese, there are roadside stands vending local produce, there is a bluegrass band playing a work called Decomposition (and yes, it will be in the key of D). There will also likely be at least a few decorated silage bags as part of the Farm/Art D-Tour, a 50-mile tour of hand-crafted art around Sauk County.   Hear from fermentation guru Sandor Katz, ….

Madison Budget Unveiled

Last week, Mayor Paul Soglin unveiled a 266.4 million dollar budget for next year. But the process doesn’t stop here. Now the Common Council will take up the spending plan, and there are sure to be plenty of amendments proposed. Council members met Monday night to begin reviewing the spending plan.   Isthmus reporter Joe Tarr talks with some alders about what services they’ll fight for. Polls “Swamped”

In an election most analysts say comes down to voter turnout, wards across the state have reported high turnout today. Dane County Clerk Karen Peters called turnout “just wild,” and Madison City Clerk Maribeth Witzel-Behl said, “We’re swamped.” At 5:20pm, Witzel-Behl said she ordered more ballots printed. Milwaukee had to call in extra poll workers. High Voter Turnout In Dane County The official forecast for voter turnout statewide was 60 to 65 percent of eligible voters, which the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s elections guru, Craig Gilbert, called “a more or less insane figure.” Estimates for Dane County range between 80 to 88 percent of registered voters, according to Peters. Madison’s turnout was projected to be over 100 percent of registered voters ….
