Tonight, March 28, 2013, there will be a showing of the film, Don’t Judge Me at Market Square Theatre. The filmmaker of the movie, Kyra Monae, joined Tony Castaneda to discuss the content of the film and why she made it. The movie is about her struggle with bipolar disorder. Wicks book takes on the standard of business practice. She argues that being a person of business doesn’t mean you can’t also be doing good. Competing For The Gold: April Sheel

Joining Aaron Perry on the 8 O’Clock Buzz on Tuesday, March 26, 2013, was April Sheel. Sheel is an athlete training for the Special Olympics. This is her second year competing. She will be racing in the pool, doing a 200-meter and a 400-meter swim. April Sheel was born with cerebral palsy and found a love for the water at an early age. More recently she found out that she could compete which gives Sheel motivation to keep at it. Listen to the entire interview below:

Wild In America: A Collaborative Exhibition

This week Madison’s commonwealth gallery and Monsters Of Poetry host Wild In America. A collaborative painting, performance and poetry exhibit. The project pairs local writers and artists to create one piece of writing and one piece of art that explores American Wildness. On Monday, March 25, 2013, Brian Standing was Joined by curator of the exhibit, Ellen Siebers, and poets Kara Candito and Matt Guenette.
Diane Nash, Smart Civil Disobedience

Diane Nash, co-founder and strategist for the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee, spoke in Madison last Wednesday at Edgewood College. Among her many accomplishments during the civil rights era Nash led the 1961 Freedom Rides, worked with the Southern Leadership Council, and engineered the Lunch-counter integration Sit-ins in Nashville. The 8 O’Clock Buzz captured audio from her talk on smart civil disobedience. “Voting is important but voting is not nearly enough. You spend ten minutes in the voting booth every two years and think that you are going to have the kind of society that you want. It is just not happening.”
