In the wake of the shooting deaths of nine African-American churchgoers in Charleston, South Carolina, public attention has turned toward the racially motivated violence that continues to plague the U.S. despite some policymakers and media figures saying otherwise. But Reverend Graylan Hagler, Senior Pastor of the Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ in Washington, D.C., argues that the shooting is but one manifestation of a much larger system of racial hierarchy throughout the globe.
