The legislature’s Joint Finance Committee is expected to reconvene soon to finish its review of Governor Walker’s proposed 2015-2017 budget. On the list of topics yet to be discussed is funding for transportation projects, including the building and expansion of roads. 1000 Friends of Wisconsin, a land use advocacy group, has successfully sued the state Department of Transportation over one such expansion project, that of Highway 23 near Fond du Lac. Steve Hiniker, Executive Director of 1000 Friends, joined the Monday Buzz to share why the suit was brought against the agency and why it should matter to the ordinary taxpayer.
