Tonight, PNM’s Lincoln Tice explores a somewhat new philosophy in physics education with his guest Tor Odden. Tor is a Ph.D candidate in physics at UW-Madison, but he’s also designing a new science curriculum in physics through the Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the School of Education. Every student comes with their own experiences and exposure to the physical world that often makes it hard to comprehend the laws and concepts taught in a physics class. Well, why not use those experiences to help explain those laws and concepts? And so, this philosophy of physics education has been referred to as “sense-making.”
