On November 4th, the Kraft-Heinz corporation announced it will shutter Madison’s Oscar Mayer meat plant, killing 1,000 Madison-area jobs. Kraft-Heinz, a conglomerate financed by Warren Buffet’s Berkshire Hathaway and the Brazilian 3G Corporation, will close the 100-year old Madison headquarters and packing facility in stages over the next two years, moving operations to a new facility in Davenport, Iowa. Local, county and state officials decried the move, and have offered support and assistance to Oscar Mayer’s workers. Doug Leikness, President of United Food and Commercial Workers Local 538, joins Brian Standing in the studio with an update.
