Madison Metro is providing FREE rides on both regular and paratransit buses to people traveling to/from cooling centers at Warner Park and Monona Terrace. In order to travel free of charge passengers must inform the bus driver that they are traveling to the cooling center when they get on the bus. Free rides are expected to be available through 12pm on Saturday July 7. These rides are only available to Warner Park, the Monona Terrace, or other cooling centers that may be added to the system.
During this epic heat wave Madison citizens are urged to check on vulnerable neighbors, and to use common sense in regards to heat exposure, hydration and activity. For people who do not have access to air-conditioning, there are 2 cooling centers open at Warner Park and Monona Terrace. Both are equipped with cots and the Red Cross is providing water. The Salvation Army is providing food.
Madison School district cancelled summer programs for Thursday July 5 and Friday July 6 because many of it’s facilities lack air conditioning.
