Last week we had Amelia Royko Maurer and Stephanie Rearick in the studio to talk about the tragic death of Madison musician Paul Heenan. Heenan was shot to death by a police officer in early November of last year. The circumstances of his death have left many friends and neighbors asking questions about the police’s policies.
The two were involved in helping organize a public hearing that took place earlier this week. There they were hopeful that the meeting would bring more information and dialog to the Madison community and would also act as a safe space to discuss police training procedures and use of force policies.
They came back to share with us what happened at the meeting.
Amelia Royko Maurer, a fellow musician, worked closely with Heenan in the recording studio. She also was his roommate for a short time. Stephanie Rearick, a community activist, musician, and part owner of Mother Fools Coffee Shop on Williams Street, helped organize the public hearing that took place earlier this week.
