Today in 1967: The Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr., speaking at a Southern Christian Leadership Conference in Atlanta, urges a massive civil disobedience drive in northern cities.
Responding to the widespread rioting there, he said, quote “It is purposeless to tell Negroes they should not be enraged when they should be . . . Civil disobedience can utilize the militance wasted in riots . . . .”

The City of Fitchburg is partnering with the Farley Center to host a Small-Scale Agriculture and Community Gardens Workshop at 9am on Thursday, August 22nd, at the Fitchburg Library. The workshop will link small-scale agricultural growers in search of land in which to grow their commodities with landowners in the City willing to rent their land to these growers.
