Today in 1934: the International Brotherhood of Teamsters leads a general strike in Minneapolis after trucking companies refuse to recognize the union. Thirty five thousand building-trade workers and all taxi drivers walk out in sympathy.

The strike will culminate in a May twenty first battle against business goons. After the governor and federal mediators patch together an agreement that leaves major issues unsettled, a second strike begins in July.

The second season of Gardening for Good begins this month. It offers opportunities to Northside adults with developmental disabilities to learn to garden and be part of the community at Troy Community Gardens. This is Thursdays from 6 to 7:30, May 30th through August 15th. For people with disabilities that are interested in participating, contact your support broker for assistance in signing up. Starting today, join Clean Wisconsin every Thursday for a group ride around the Madison area. Every Thursday at 5:30 p.m., the ride starts from the Clean Wisconsin office, 634 West Main. Each week, there will be two different routes: one longer route for faster, more experienced bikers, and one shorter route for more casual bikers.The Clean Wisconsin & Friends Bike Club is a friendly, for-fun bike group open to all.
