Today in 2002: The House voted 296 to 133 to pass the “Joint Resolution to Authorize the Use of United States Armed Forces Against Iraq,” giving President George W. Bush broad authority to use military force against Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein, with or without U.N. support.

Today is National Depression Screening Day. UW Department of Psychiatry faculty and residents join with University Health Services to offer free depression screening. Students and the general public are invited to take a brief survey. If the results indicate depression, the participant is encouraged to speak to one of the physicians or therapists on hand. Education materials and a list of area resources will be provided to all. This is today from 11am to 1pm at UW Union South, 1308 West Dayton Street. For more info, call Vanessa at 608-263-0491.
Tomorrow is an “Art in Healthcare Jewelry Workshop.” This free event is made possible by the support of the Ira and Ineva Baldwin Reilly Wisconsin Idea Endowment. Project Artful Healing and Health is designed to continue free access to art activities for adult patients after hospital discharge to return to their community, continuing the healing process. This is an all ages event but children under 11 will need to be accompanied by an adult. Materials provided or bring your own. This is tomorrow from 10am to 1pm at Absolutely Art, 2322 Atwood Avenue.
