Today in 1993: police arrest Wisconsin anti-nuclear activists John LaForge, John Heid, Sam Day and Bonnie Urfer for trespassing at an Air Force tower near Medford. The tower is part of a new communications network. It is designed to connect the president and other military commanders with command posts and bomber bases during so-called “National emergencies”.
The four will be convicted under a county ordinance after pleading guilty or, no contest. But all will refuse to pay the one hundred fourteen dollar fine and, therefore, will serve sixty -day jail sentences.
