Today in 1940: The 40-hour workweek goes into effect under the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938, requiring employers to pay overtime and restricting the use of child labor.
Decades of labor agitation and a considerable number of lives made this change possible.

The Dane County Humane Society is accepting donations of working or broken cell phones, laptops, digital cameras and more to help raise funds for animals while reducing the amount of electronic waste deposited in landfills. There are a variety of drop-off locations throughout Madison and donations are accepted through November 6th. More info at giveshelter.org.
The Wheelchair Recycling Program offers low cost, refurbished mobility and medical equipment to people that may not have the resources to obtain them new. They have wheelchairs, walkers, bath items, grab bars and other assistive equipment for purchase. There are offices in Madison and the Greater-Milwaukee area.
