Today in 2003: The U.S. Supreme Court finds a Texas “anti-sodomy” law unconstitutional, overruling, and apologizing for, the 1986 Bowers v. Hardwick decision.

The 6 to 3 decision in Lawrence versus Texas said that citizens have the “right to liberty under the Due Process Clause gives them the full right to engage in private conduct without government intervention.”

It’s Today’s Action Calendar!

This Saturday is Take a Stake in the Lakes – Brittingham Park Shoreline Cleanup! Join the Four Lakes Sierra Club and Friends of Monona Bay from 10am to Noon to help clean up our lakes! Meet at the Brittingham Beach House, 701 West Brittingham Place. Bring your rake, canoe or kayak, if you have one, and wear clothes and gloves you don’t mind getting wet. Afterwards, Brittingham Boats offers Babcock Hall Ice Cream, coffee drinks and “make your own” grilled cheese. Feel free to bring a dish to share, or cold beverages to relax with after the work party. Contact with questions and please RSVP at

Tomorrow night is a free Eat Play Bike Placemaking event at the Villager Mall! The parking lot will be closed to vehicles and open for residents to share culture, food, and get to know neighbors.
