It’s a week into our two week fall pledge drive and we want to thank the 582 donors who have called the station to pledge or pledged on our website, wortfm.org. We are so grateful for all your support and your encouraging comments!
But we’re not as encouraged by the fact that, one week into our two week drive, we are at $40,830, almost 20% below where we need to be to make our goal.
The goal for this drive is the same as it has been for the past three years: $100,000. We’ve met that goal or surpassed it all three years, so we hoped $100,000 was achievable.
As an alternative radio station born of the counterculture, WORT doesn’t have many “big” donors who make millions and want to support community radio. And by not many, we mean none.
Instead, WORT survives and thrives because of the support of thousands of donors from around Dane County just like you.
For those of you who haven’t donated to WORT yet, we know there is a reason.
You had a busy week.
You already pledged to Wisconsin Public Radio.
You are waiting for someone else to call in.
You pledged three years ago.
Whatever the reason, please consider the value WORT provides. The diverse music brought to you by volunteers who are experts in their genres. News that comes from volunteer reporters who represent a cross section of our community.
Yes, commercial radio is free because it supports a consumer culture: YOU NEED, YOU DESERVE, YOU MUST HAVE. WORT doesn’t do that. We are free of corporate influence, free of our state government whims. We answer to you.
A pledge has two parts: We pledge to continue to bring you the great radio you love. And we ask you to pledge to support it.
Thank you!
