It’s been a year since Zebra Mussels, those small striped bivalve killers from Southern Russia and Ukraine, first showed up in Madison’s Lake Mendota. In other lakes where they’re isolated from natural predators, including Lake Michigan, zebra mussels have exploded in abundance, driving out native species and even clogging sewer pipes. So, now that these alien invaders have been here for a while, how bad have they gotten? Joining Brian Standing in the studio is University of Wisconsin limnologist Michael Spear, with an update.
