The release of the 2020 Oscar nominations last month rekindled public dialogue about how the Academy criminally underrecognizes the contributions of filmmakers and actors of color and women directors.
Today on the show, Ali is joined by actress Lauren “Lolo” Spencer and Vox film critic Alissa Wilkinson for a roundtable discussion of notable Oscar snubs, where they explore the intersection of film and identity and highlight their own favorite movies and performances of the year.
Lauren “Lolo” Spencer is a disability lifestyle influencer, actress, model, and content creator with her own YouTube channel called Sitting Pretty. She starred in the 2019 film Give Me Liberty.
Alissa Wilkinson is a film critic and culture reporter at Vox. Her work has been published in Rolling Stone, The Washington Post, Vulture, The Atlantic, and more. Alissa is also an associate professor of English and humanities at The King’s College in New York City.
