As Madison shakes off the chill of early Spring, a warm front of flute music is set to blow in to the ears and screens of music lovers here and around the world. Starting on the 19th and running through the end of the month, this year’s Wisconsin Flute Festival offers a wealth of online master classes, concerts, and workshops for flutists of all skill levels. Registration gets you on-demand access to each event after it debuts. Highlights include Irish flutist Shannon Heaton, a masterclass with Lady Jeanne Galway, and concerts and masterclasses by Nicole Esposito and Jonathan Keeble. Anne Gath of the Madison Flute Club joined WORT host Peter Haney to discuss the goings on and the Flute Club’s long journey back into the concert hall. Although the festival is all virtual this year, the Madison Flute Club will hold an in-person concert on May 8th at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Madison. This event will include the premiere of a work commissioned by the club from the composer Gay Kahkonen.
