Three hundred and fifty parts per million: that’s the percentage of carbon the earth’s atmosphere can contain while maintaining the climate to which we’re all accustomed. Above that, and greenhouse effects start raising the temperature. We’re currently at four hundred parts per million, thanks largely to human combustion of fossil fuels, which releases millenia of stored carbon in a geologic eyeblink.
350 Madison is the local chapter of the climate change action group originally founded by environmental author and climate change Cassandra Bill McKibben.
Campaign organizers Mark Haag and Ben Peterson spoke about the project with Monday 8 O’Clock Buzz host Brian Standing.
