(WORT)–Students at La Follette High School are making the final edits to a series of bilingual podcasts that tell the story of Madison’s first dual language immersion program–in the community’s own words.
Sergio González, a PhD student in history, coordinated the project with the help of a grant from UW Madison’s Center for the Humanities and in collaboration with La Follette teacher Mikaela Hagen.
González spoke with WORT’s Darien Lamen about why he decided to train some of his former students as co-researchers for the oral history project, and about the long-term impact of the immersion program.
The oral history podcasts will be unveiled at a public reception Friday, April 8th at 5pm at Nuestro Mundo Community School.
