At approximately 3 AM on the morning of Sunday, August 5, a man wearing a mask and hood entered the WORT station and opened fire on three DJs in the broadcast studio. Witnesses say five shots were fired, injuring one DJ and shattering the glass between studios.
In the wake of this incident, we want to have a conversation about gun violence. Joining Esty in the studio are three high school activists, Sophie Guthier, Lauren Dahler, and Lydia Hester, to talk about their advocacy related to gun reform in the United States. Partway through the show, they are joined by Rev. Jerry Hancock, board president of Wisconsin Anti-Violence Effort (WAVE), to discuss current gun-related issues, including 3D-printed guns and the role of the NRA in politics.
A technology note: Our apologies, but we experienced audio archive issues in the recording of this show, which may result in some “glitchiness” during the interview.
