Producer Will Cushman speaks with geophysicist James Hickey, of the Camborne School of Mines in the UK. Hickey is a co-author of a study published in the journal Scientific Reports in September on Sakurajima volcano in Japan. The study uses groundbreaking methods to model the dangerous volcano’s magma chamber and forecasts that Sakurajima could produce another major eruption in the next 25-30 years. The new methods can be applied to other dangerous volcanoes all over the world.
