The University of Wisconsin Badgers have a long and proud tradition in intercollegiate athletics, with 28 National Titles and 194 Big Ten Championships in a wide variety of men’s and women’s sports over the years. Oddly enough, though, one sport in which the Badgers do not currently compete at a varsity level is America’s pastime, baseball. Steven Schmitt worked as a sports reporter for many years, and is a member of the Society for American Baseball Research and the Old Time Ballplayers Association. His new book is A History of Badger Baseball: The Rise and Fall of America’s Pastime at the University of Wisconsin, out this week from the University of Wisconsin Historical Society Press. Steve Schmitt joins 8 O’Clock Buzz host Brian Standing, in the studio.
