In a tradition that stretches back for centuries, households will soon start bringing evergreen trees into their living rooms, to provide greenery and comfort during the darkest nights and shortest days of the year. And yes, many of those folks will be celebrating Christmas as well.
Once the holidays are done, though, what to do with that dried-out firetrap of a tree? You could dump it in a landfill, burn it, or let it rot in your backyard.
Or, you could contribute it to a temporary art installation that will use the trees to create temporary labyrinths. “How Lovely are thy Branches” is the project of local artist Lillian Sizemore, and it’s coming this winter to Olbrich Park. 8 O’Clock Buzz host Brian Standing speaks to Sizemore about the project.
