“Alice’s Restaurant” Open For Food, Family, Fun!

Back by popular demand, a special program returns to the WORT airwaves with its humorous and poignant themes of food, family and fun. And especially for fans of the iconic, satirical story-song:  Did you miss Arlo and Alice last year? Did you miss Ray, and Fasha the dog, Officer Obie, or the mean and nasty and ugly and horrible crime-type guys sittin’ on the Group W Bench? Did you miss three hours of tunes about strawberries, bananas, junk food, beans and corn bread, and my baby’s puddin’? On Thursday morning, November twenty-fourth, at nine-oh-five, the Folk Anarchist – Bob Kaspar, who hosted Tuesday morning folk for many years, returns to the airwaves with his Thanksgiving smorgasbord for three hours including the full Alice’s Restaurant Massacree by Arlo Guthrie, introduced by Alice herself! 

To go beyond pervasive traditions and understand the real history behind many “American” celebrations, look for the stream of special programming celebrating First Nations and Indigenous peoples during Native American Heritage Month, November 2022 including a musical spotlight by Helena White for On The Horizon, and coming up on Global Revolutions, Esty Dinur features even more music plus an interview with Joe Rainey, an innovative Ojibwe performer who recently appeared at Arts + Literature Laboratory here in Madison.
