Few drummers have left a legacy behind on par with the one that Clyde Stubblefield has. The time we were blessed with his talent will surely leave its mark on generations of musicians to come. His personal style and the countless beats borrowed from him as one of the most sampled drummers of all time greatly influenced the evolution of jazz, modern funk, jazz fusion, rap and hip hop. Clyde Stubblefield is music history, plain and simple, and Madison music history as well, and that’s why since his passing The Clyde Stubblefield All Stars have continued on in his place as a living tribute to his legacy.
Since Clyde Stubblefield was such a large part of Madison’s local music scene for a long time, the All Stars and their mission to keep that legacy alive made them an easy choice for this year’s block party.
Bandleader, musical director and Grammy nominated drummer Joey B. Banks says The Clyde Stubblefield All Stars “can’t wait to throw down at the WORT BLOCK PARTAY!!” The band’s ranks are filled with some of the region’s best musicians performing Stubblefield’s hits with James Brown and songs from his solo albums “The Original” and “Revenge of the Funky Drummer”, along with some of Clyde’s favorite Funky Monday jams. The band performs tribute shows all over the Midwest region and will be keeping Clyde’s musical legacy alive for years to come. See them play at the High Noon Saloon monthly for “Funky Monday”, a fundraiser for the Clyde Stubblefield Scholarship Fund, and don’t forget to catch them and all the other great bands playing at this year’s Annual WORT Block Party and No Crap On Tap!
