The stone monument in front of one of the oldest synagogues in the country–Gates of Heaven in James Madison Park–was found vandalized this morning. On it were spray-painted swastikas and the words “Trump rules.”
The vandalism comes at the start of Rosh Hashanah, which begins tonight. Although the police cannot confirm whether or not the vandalism is a hate crime, they are investigating it as a possibility. Rabi Johnathan Biatch of Temple Beth El spoke with WORT Reporter, Will Kenneally, about the feelings in his congregation and community following the vandalism.
