The fatal shooting of 19-year old Tony Robinson by Madison Police officer Matt Kenny on Friday, March 6th continues to reverberate through the city of Madison. Robinson’s funeral took place Saturday and became yet another public outpouring of grief, anguish and peaceful protest. The State Department of Justice investigation into the shooting is still underway, with results expected to be presented to the Dane County District Attorney later this week. Meanwhile, many, including members of Tony Robinson’s family, are asking questions about the police methods that resulted in Robinson’s death, the fourth fatal shooting by Madison police since 2012. Robinson’s grandmother remarked “Where was your taser?” Seth Stoughton served as a police officer in Tallahassee, Florida for five years and is now a professor of law at the University of South Carolina. He focuses on police training and methods.
