Local percussionist, composer, software engineer, and electronic music artist Nathaniel Bartlett discusses his work with WORT’s Peter Haney on Back Porch Serenade. A Madison native, Bartlett received a DMA degree in composition from the UW School of Music and was a postdoctoral associate at the Wisconsin Institute of Discovery from 2011 to 2013. He has recently returned to his home town after three years in New Mexico. On Sunday, February 4th, he will present selections from “Luminous Machine,” his most recent musical effort, along with Edgard Varese’s 1958 work “Poeme Electronique” at the Overture Center’s Promenade Hall. “Luminous Machine” responds to the austere landscape of northern New Mexico by translating the visual experience of the desert into sound.
