Wisconsin has the largest backlog of pending therapist- and social worker-licenses in the country, with some having to wait months before they are able to fully perform their job.
This is due, in large part, to lack of staff at the state Department of Safety and Professional Services, which processes the licenses.
Earlier today, WORT Producer Nate Wegehaupt spoke with Marc Herstand. He’s the head of the Wisconsin chapter of the National Association of Social Workers.
Their conversation took place just after a hearing at the state capitol about the backlog.
