Recent events following the Kenosha police shooting of Jacob Blake have drawn the attention of news outlets around the world. The varying coverage of the police shooting, protests and visits by various politicians has highlighted ethical and moral debates surrounding the intense media coverage.
Until Saturday, Daniel Thompson was the web editor at Kenosha News. He was the paper’s only full-time Black employee. But Thompson left the paper after it published a headline that, he says, negligently mischaracterized a particular protest by using a controversial quote from one of the speakers.
Earlier today, WORT Producer Jonah Chester spoke with Thompson about why he resigned his position at Kenosha News in protest.
