In tonight’s episode of the Perpetual Notion Machine, we look into the biotechnology programs at Madison Area Technical College (MATC), otherwise known as Madison College. PNM’s Lincoln Tice talks with Dr. Joe Lowndes, an instructor in biotechnology and chemistry at MATC. As a technical school, the programs and courses are geared toward learning the specific skills necessary for particular job titles and careers. Joe describes some of the work and responsibilities required by some of these jobs. And he also mentions the employment opportunities provided by a growing biotech industry right here in Madison. A couple of the programs that Joe discusses include an intensive post-baccalaureate program for those already with a bachelor’s degree, and one specifically geared toward stem cell technologies.
