The Breeders are finally back with the release of their latest album, All Nerve – the title perhaps suggesting it all. Following the trend of band reunions, All Nerve is the band’s 5th studio album and their first new release in 10 years! Donors to WORT’s cutting edge rock programs can get tickets to their only Wisconsin appearance.
To say expectations were running high for this album would be an understatement. Since the release of their alt-rock gem Last Splash in 1993, The Breeders have easily reached rock icon status. More importantly, this comeback album features their legendary Last Splash lineup – twin sisters/guitarists Kim and Kelley Deal, bassist Josephine Wiggs, and drummer Jim MacPherson. Fuzzy, dark, and bittersweet, the album is a delicious reminder of the incredible waves that this lineup can make.
Fans expecting a Last Splash pt. II, however, may be disappointed. Although raw and intimate, All Nerve shows a softer and more sinister side of the band. With dynamic hooks, abstract lyrics, and the Deal sisters’ trademark harmonies, it is still, undoubtedly, The Breeders. All Nerve can be understood as giving the middle finger towards meeting expectations, and instead encourages the listener to fall back in love with the band’s timeless sound.
The Breeders will be playing their only Wisconsin show on this tour at the Rave/Eagles Club in Milwaukee on Wednesday, May 9th. Get your tickets to this fabulous live show by listening to our Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evening and Friday afternoon rock shows and supporting us during our Winter 2018 Pledge Drive, running now through Sunday, March 11.
